Part 1: Academic Habits [Framed within the context of The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg] We discussed the need to form and strengthen our academic habits. CUE: eg. Turning on device. ROUTINE: 1. Check your email and respond. 2. Read our class weebly sites, including at least THREE of the most current posts to orientate ourselves, clarify expectations and get into our learning! REWARD: Academic Success! A sense of accomplishment, empowerment, and readiness to learn. | Searching for instances, expressions, or glimpses of the inner child, we embarked on a short expedition around the school. Students were asked to quietly observe and identify child like behaviors. Upon returning to the classroom, they were given an index card to record findings. They were encouraged to document 10 observations. Part 3: Writing Workshop Revisiting "The Child in Me" document, students then delved into their memories and imagination to compose a short narrative or string of images from ONE specific moment from the childhood from between the age of 4-8 years old. Part 4: Poetry Sound Poem Workshop Using a student poem as a sample, students witnessed how lines from the poem could be abstracted to create repetitive patterns to create a soundscape and a performance piece.
